Gears tactics exploits5/2/2023 ![]() This boss fight is quite cool, with a lot of movement, but it drags on a bit too long. For everyone else, it's mostly just fun seeing your cosmetic choices in slick cutscenes. If you enjoy Gears lore, you'll be right as rain. Gears Tactics' main contribution to the lore is in providing a bit more color to the Outsiders, a group that appeared in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, firmly planting it within the modern era of Gears storytelling under The Coalition. It's big damn heroes all the way down the line, with impossibly ripped men and women growling out sad backstories and catchy one-liners. The plot isn't the deepest, but it never is with Gears, so that's not a problem. ![]() (Transmedia!) Ignoring his wishes, Chairman Prescott sends Gabe and hardened veteran Sid Redburn on a mission to kill Ukkon, a Locust scientist who's mutating his kind into new forms. The elder Diaz is a former soldier working in the COG motorpool, following the events of the Gears of War: Bloodlines novel. (XCOM's latest release, the spin-off XCOM: Chimera Squad, tries on a narrative for size, however.) It follows the exploits of Gabe Diaz, the father of Gears 5 heroine Kait Diaz. The first is that it has a decidedly narrative bent, something that XCOM has largely avoided. Gears Tactics lends its own flavor to the tactics genre in two distinct ways. Still waiting for that Gears movie starring the Rock. In Gears Tactics, those root concepts translate over to an isometric strategy game rather easily, especially the idea of fighting primarily from cover. The big-builded dominantly-men hide in waist-high cover, and then charge out to rip and tear alien foes apart with chainsaw bayonets. Gears of War has always been about burly soldiers that physically dwarf Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Gears Tactics splits the difference between its franchise namesake and the fan-favorite strategy series it pointedly takes inspiration from, XCOM. Gears Tactics, however, has pulled me right back in. I enjoyed the first two games, but definitely fell off and focused on other games and franchises over the past 12 years. There are several difficulty modes and modifiers to make the experience more challenging, and there’s a robust endgame that allows you to continually run missions to level up and build your perfect squad, acquiring all new gear and loot for your units along the way.The last game I played in the Gears franchise was Gears of War 2. Gears Tactics is absolutely the longest Gears game, and you can extend your playtime dramatically after wrapping up the main campaign if you decide to replay it. Still, the main story missions can take a long time to finish as well, and you can find yourself still in the early Chapters of the game with quite a few hours under your belt. These side missions are practically required, and they take up a large chunk of time to complete. This is largely due to the side missions that the game requires you to go on in between main story missions. Even though there aren’t as many Acts as Gears of War 4 or 5, Gears Tactics is considerably longer than both. That means the game has a total of 3 Acts and 22 Chapters. ![]() Act 1 has 6 Chapters, and Acts 2 and 3 have 8 chapters each. How Many Acts and Chapters are in Gears Tactics? A lot of the Chapters require you to complete a few side missions before you can progress the main story as well, so there’s a lot to do in between the major story beats of Gears Tactics. There aren’t that many Acts, but each Act has several Chapters to work through before you can move onto the next. Like the other games in the series, Gears Tactics is divided into different Acts and Chapters. It’s longer than any of the mainline Gears games by a large margin, and there’s a ton of great strategy gameplay for players to sink their teeth into.
